"I had never seriously considered the option previously, as I didn’t have a degree"

Ian had a few jobs before becoming a Future Teaching Scholar, now he's doing what he loves most...

I have had many roles since leaving school including bank clerk, quantity surveyor, a tutor constable with the police, and a driving instructor. All my roles have included either mathematical or tutoring/instructing elements.

I thoroughly enjoy doing both, so decided to look for a way to use these skills together. Becoming a maths teacher seemed like an obvious choice for me. Although I had often thought about teaching, I had never seriously considered the option previously, as I didn’t have a degree. I am what is referred to as a mature student, and I have financial commitments such as a mortgage, so I needed a way to study for my Maths degree, gain experience in teaching, and get some financial assistance.

The Future Teacher Scholars programme ticked all three boxes and has made it possible for me to finally become a qualified teacher. If you want to change career and need a way into teaching, I would recommend the Future Teacher Scholars Programme.
